After months of preproduction, location scouting, casting, and scheduling, we began principle shooting of “Reverie Blvd.” on July 20th, 2007.
I don’t know whether the shooting is my favorite part of film making, but it is definitely the most exciting. Things are always moving and happening and as the director, I’m in charge of supervising “controlled chaos.”
It was amazing to actually see the characters that I had written come to life in these actors. When Brad arrived and began trying on trench coats for his character, I got really excited.
As any filmmaker can tell you, things never go as planned. Never. Regardless of the level of preproduction planning, when you finally arrive on set, unexpected things are going to happen. Our film was no different. First day: it rained. But that didn’t stop us. We used the rain and incorporated it into the story. The unofficial phrase of filming for us was, “roll with it.” And we did.
The following seven days, spread over a period of a month and a half, were no different. But we never missed a beat. The challenge was there, and my cast and crew were up for it...and then some. On September 4th, 2007, we finished the last shot of the movie in the wee hours of the morning. It was an extremely fulfilling moment, that we could all make these plans and execute them.
But the fun was far from over...it was now time for post-production...
